“I can rush off a cliff or I can build a bridge across it. And if you look around, we seem to be awfully light on bridges these days because we’re incredibly limited on patience.”

—Craig D. Lounsbrough

If we’re being honest? “Limited on patience” is being generous. We have drive-thrus and express lines, one-click check outs and next-day delivery to help get us through our days faster. But these conveniences are never quite fast enough, are they?

If a browser window takes more than 10 seconds to load, or the car in front of us isn’t driving fast enough, that tension bubbling at our surface boils over. As parents, we are held hostage to the unrealistic time constraints we put on ourselves by over scheduling and over committing, and then we are forced to rush our kids from one thing to another. I’m so, so guilty of that one — always trying to cram 32 hours worth of stuff into our 24 hour day.

We “can’t even” with most people and situations because they’re simply not at our speed.

While I respect those extreme athletes who chase Fastest Known Times (FKTs) and record-breaking daily mileage goals, that’s not why I’m out here. I’m out here trying to

D O W N.

To take time to appreciate what’s around me. To clear my head. To be present. To make time to build bridges or find those that have gone neglected for far too long.
